Wall Art Size Guide: Ratios & Dimensions
Every wall-art download from Guilds & Grains includes five print ratios so the same design fits almost any frame. Here's what each one means and how to choose.
The five ratios
- 2:3 → 4×6, 8×12, 12×18, 16×24, 24×36"
- 3:4 → 6×8, 9×12, 12×16, 18×24"
- 4:5 → 8×10, 16×20" (the most popular for frames)
- ISO / A-series → A5, A4, A3, A2 (international / EU sizes)
- 11:14 → 11×14" (a classic US frame size)
How to pick a size
As a rule of thumb, art should fill two-thirds to three-quarters of the wall or furniture below it. Over a sofa or bed, go large (24×36" or a pair of 18×24"). For a gallery wall, mix 8×10 and 11×14 pieces.
Measure before you print
Tape a paper outline of the size on your wall and live with it for a day. It's the cheapest way to avoid printing too small — the most common mistake.
Matching frames
Buy the frame first, then print to its ratio. The 4:5 and 11:14 files fit the widest range of affordable off-the-shelf frames.
Browse fantasy wall art or printable posters — every design ships in all five ratios.
